Best Time to Harvest Figs
Fig trees are also one of my favorite trees. Well, fig trees require medium to large spaces in your garden. If you have a large space to grow trees, you can grow fig trees. There are lots of varieties of fig trees, such as Black Mission, Kadota, and Chicago Hardy. Black Mission is one of my personal favorite choices, if you ask me. Fig trees can grow 25 to 30 feet high, so, as I said before, figs require a big space to grow properly. To be honest, I don’t like fig trees, but I love figs. Because figs are super sweet to eat, and Black Mission figs are always my favorite; I just love them. I have two fig trees in my home garden. Well, if you are thinking about growing fig trees in containers, you are definitely going to need a big container. Taking care is also essential; regular watering is a must if you wish to have nice and sweet figs on your fig tree, and they also prefer full sun. Well, if you are thinking about growing fruit plants in your home garden, fig trees are a great choice, I must say. Now let’s talk about the best time to harvest figs. Technically, fig trees do not take much time to bear fruit. Unlike other trees that may take three or four years to produce their first fruits, fig trees start to produce fruits one or two years after planting. This also depends on proper care, as I mentioned before in other articles; every tree requires proper care and attention. If you grow fig trees from seeds, it might take three years to produce the first fruits. I have been growing figs for more than three years, and with proper care, my fig trees take only eight months to bear their first fruits. Now let’s talk about how you will know your figs are ready for harvest. The answer is pretty easy; the best time to harvest figs is when they are fully ripe. When they become fully ripe, you will see they are soft to the touch and come off the tree with a gentle tug. Ripe figs come out easily. If figs do not come out easily and you have to use a little push or the fruit is still hard, that means they are not fully ripe. For that, you have to wait a few days until they become fully ripe. Also, figs normally take six to eight weeks to mature completely. That means if your fig tree starts to produce fruits, after two months you will have your harvest. After two months, check the figs. If you see your figs are fully ripe, then just pull them off the tree, and you will have a good harvest at the end of the season.
